Coney Island
Coney Island has been a periodic part of my life since I was a child; first with my early memories of the Steeplechase, then as a teenager with groups of friends, and later as a young Dad with my two children, Sam and Isabelle. There is something uniquely magical there, from the neon lights to the carnival barkers and the great expanse of its oceanside beach. There is also a sense of danger, a tawdry underside, that has always been an integral part of its thrill. Starting in 2007, as Astroland’s fate was sealed, I began an ongoing series of works attempting to capture the slowly vanishing allure of this idiosyncratic place.
